The media hype is not concerned weather the gun is semi, or full auto. The get caught up with the general shape of the gun and words like assault rifle or paramilitary weaponry. Police agency's never find fully auto or converted fully auto guns when they make gun confiscations. Fully auto guns are extremely hard to acquire (special license) thus there relative availability for underground purchase is massively dwarfed by that of semi auto's.

Half of the responders to this are military men. I wonder how you could possibly overlook the obvious difference between a semiautomatic and automatic weapon. The round may INDIVIDUALLY do less damage, but that clip goes by fast with automatic fire. The damage an inexperienced gunman can do with an automatic weapon, as opposed to even a semiautomatic, doesn't compare. In experienced hands, any gun can become a powerful weapon, but all guns are not made equal, and claiming such is pure ignorance.

Trust me, Ive been to war. Ive been in the desert and I know exactly what the M4 (and subsequently AR15) can handle there. Like I said, Id rather spend a few hundred extra on a really good AR than buy a cheap AK parts kit. The modern weapons of the M16 platform perform remarkeably well in many unsuitable conditions. The faults of Vietnam no longer exist. I was talking about the bolt action rifle only needing one shot. I could easily take someone out from 800meters w/ one shot from my M91/30.

Besides, a 30-06 has much more range, meaning you will be harder to spot and will probably kill more people, if that's your goal. Chances are, if you run into a heavily poplulated city block and open fire, there will be a cop nearby to shoot you down. Gun control is unconstitutional, recent court decisions have established that the second amendment applies to modern weapons to properly server its purpose. (Hint: it's not about hunting or self-defense) I'd say an AK is can be considered modern.

Actually, not that much. 7.62x39 tends to pass clean through, so you'll be fine unless the bullet hits a vital organ. There are plenty of semi-automatic hunting rifles chambered in .223, which is a more lethal round, at least to someone without body armor, which will be the presumed target, yet these rifles are mostly ignored by the liberal media because they don't look "evil." Besides, background checks usually prevent people that are unfit to own a weapon from owning one.

i love guns and do believe in the right to bear arms but just think! how much damage could someone with a semi automatic AK-47 with a 30 round banana clip compared to someone with a bolt action 30'06 with 5 rounds?

There is no such thing as a semi auto assault rifle. An assault rifle is by definition a selective fire intermediate caliber rifle i.e. m4, ak74, G36. Thus only a rifle capable of full auto can be considered an assault rifle.

This is just about all the proof anyone needs to prove to those socialist democratic bastereds in washington that most americans own more powerful weapons then their own soldiers do. Its kinda sad if you think about it in that sense,

I dont think Id be opposed to using a Galil in the field. They have an excellent design and do very well in the desert. I wouldnt want it to have any longer than a 16" bbl. though.

Agreed. The only time I used full-auto was in room clearing situations. I actually prefer the direct gas system to a piston system in the field. With a piston system, there is more of a chance of mechanical failure from broken parts, and risk of added parts breaking. I would like the lack of soot in the reciever, but Id still feel better about the direct gas system being in place. Cleaning the upper isnt that bad. You just have to have the right tools... and plenty of oil.
